Wellpur ™ pillow – test and comparison

Cushions made of viscoelastic foam are a real insider tip for an even more restful sleep. Everything you need to know about Wellpur pillows and excellent alternatives.

Wellpur ™ pillows are a trademark of the Danish bed warehouse . These are special cushions made of visco-elastic foam (memory foam).

The pillows provide ergonomic support for the head, neck and shoulders while sleeping.

  • While the Danish bed warehouse sells this concept under the name Wellpur, there are numerous other suppliers who market these pillows as “orthopedic neck support pillows”.
  • The materials used are very often identical to the Danish original – and have a similar number of advantages for your spine and your sleep.

I would like to explain the benefits of these pillows to you in more detail and introduce you to some cheaper alternatives that are in no way inferior to the Wellpur brand.

Cushions made of viscoelastic foam

Viscoelastic foam – also known as memory foam – is a popular material for orthopedic purposes.

The material has been used for mattresses for a long time.

  • The foam consists of a so-called shape memory polymer.
  • The pillow adapts perfectly to your head.
  • Even after major deformation, the material returns to its original shape and retains it for a long time.

It feels like you are using the pillow for the very first time every time.

The foam is deformed by your body weight and adapts to your head. It also hardens slightly due to your body heat. As a result, the “ideal” shape is retained at night and you sleep stable and always optimally supported.

In contrast, pillows made of conventional material often become “flat”, lose their shape and you have to replace them more often.

Overall, a memory foam pillow ensures optimal stability in a body position that is right for you.

Memory foam relieves your spine

A normal pillow (e.g. down pillow) loses shape and stability over time.

Holes form and you may no longer be right. When lying on your back, your head tilts forward as if you were looking down slightly.

In the long run, this position puts strain on your neck vertebrae. Neck and shoulder pain are often the result the next morning.

Especially if you are a side sleeper, you often lack the right support during sleep:

  • If you are lying on a pillow with both your head and your shoulders, your shoulders are pressing the material down.
  • Often your head is not lying straight on the pillow, but rather sags.
  • This puts a strain on your neck vertebrae and in turn causes tension and pain.

Memory foam adapts to the contour of your body so that you only sink into the pillow where you exert pressure.

In the side position, the height of the pillow is crucial.

The pillow is therefore more flexible and compensates for the different weight distribution. For example, your shoulders can sink deeper into the pillow while your head end remains elevated.

Your head will end up straight (in a line) on the pillow and your spine will remain in a neutral position.

Memory foam enables you to optimally relieve the spine in every lying position .

Long shelf life and sleeping comfort

Because memory foam always returns to its original shape, such a pillow offers you the same sleeping comfort over the years.

Where a pillow made of down or feathers is “sagging” over time and the pillow feels more like a sack of rice, a memory foam pillow will stay “true to shape” for a long time.

A good pillow made of viscoelastic foam still feels like it did on the first day, even after years.

Tip: Take a look at the guide to visco-elastic mattress toppers . These increase your sleeping comfort many times over.

Is the pillow right for you?

Memory foam pillows are highly adaptable and suitable for many people.

Suitable for every type of sleep

No matter whether you are a back sleeper, side sleeper or stomach sleeper. The pillow adapts to you like a tailor-made suit and reliably stabilizes your head, neck and shoulders.

This makes such a pillow suitable for every type of sleep and noticeably improves the quality of your sleep.

Note: Pay attention to the correct bed height when buying. In my recommendations, I will give you valuable tips so that you can choose the right height.

Ideal for allergy sufferers

The visco-elastic foam inside does not provide a habitat for mites. In addition, you can easily remove the cover and wash it in the machine.

Therefore, the pillow is also very suitable if you are allergic.

Gentle for neck or shoulder pain

Many people sleep on the wrong pillow. This is one of the main reasons you wake up in the morning with neck or shoulder pain .

Thanks to the high flexibility of a memory foam pillow, you lie straight and balanced. This prevents pain and leads to a more restful sleep.

5 recommendable cushions made of visco-elastic foam

In the following I would like to introduce you to the 5 best memory foam pillows in my opinion.

The pillows are a very good alternative to the Wellpur pillow while maintaining the same quality.

MaxxGoods orthopedic cervical neck support pillow

The MaxxGoods pillow offers you 3 heights to choose from and comes with 2 covers.

The special feature: The covers are soaked in aloe vera so that you can benefit from the pleasant effects of the popular medicinal plant in addition to the comfort of lying down.

The pillow is a little softer than other memory foam pillows. The supporting properties are of course retained.

If you prefer harder pillows, then I recommend another supplier – but this pillow is very good for everyone else.

The right lying height

For the pillow itself, you can choose between lying heights of 9, 12 or 15 cm.

The latter is ideal for side sleepers, but may be too high for children and those who sleep on the stomach and back. In these cases you should prefer 9 or 12 cm.

The aloe vera cover

I especially like the pleasant aloe vera smell of the covers. A nice side effect: the pillow keeps your skin moist and tauts it. A real insider tip if you have skin problems like pimples.

Unfortunately, this effect is lost after repeated washing. But the pillow comes with 2 covers. You can machine wash the covers up to 30 degrees.

Conclusion: The workmanship makes a very high-quality impression on me – I couldn’t find any damage or problems even after a long time. In my opinion, it also looks very luxurious.

Salosan orthopedic pillow

The viscous pillow from Salosan is particularly suitable if you sweat a lot at night .

Many properties of the pillow prevent sweating. It is particularly breathable and prevents unpleasant heat storage despite the material.

You get the pillow in the size 40 x 80 cm and the heights 9, 12 or 15 cm.

Hygienic and temperature-compensating cover

The pillow is equipped with a climate-regulating double cover to prevent heat and sweating. The core made of viscoelastic foam is also provided with air-conditioning holes that reliably dissipate heat.

The pillow is ideal if other pillows are too warm for you and you often sweat instead of sleep.

The outer cover is made of a mixed viscous fiber, while the inner cover is made of 100% cotton. This ensures an anti-allergenic effect and also cools you down on hotter nights.

Conclusion: Overall, this pillow is also very high quality and promises a long service life. The price-performance ratio is therefore very good here, even if the purchase price is in the upper mid-range.

Third of Life Aloe Vera Nackenstützkissen

With its viscose pillow, Third of Life offers the most expensive range, but at the same time it is also the best-made pillow.

It has 2 different lying surfaces, an aloe vera cover and a travel aid for easy transport on the go.

It offers a total of 4 different lying areas. One side has a pre-formed, dedicated head recess, while the other side is smooth. It also has an ergonomic neck arch.

Handy for vacation

The 12 cm high pillow measures 56 x 40 cm and is therefore smaller than most other pillows. This makes it suitable not only for at home, but also in the car, when traveling and even outdoors.

So that you can easily take the pillow with you on vacation, the pillow comes with an easy roll-up travel aid. With this you can easily roll up the pillow and stow it away to save space. This makes it suitable even for light luggage, for example on a camping trip.

Aloe vera cover

A double cover protects the pillow and also has antiallergenic, anti-microbial and odor-inhibiting properties. The cover is washable up to 40 degrees.

As with the MaxxGoods pillow, one of the covers is soaked in aloe vera. This should protect and care for the skin, prevent skin impurities and increase sleeping comfort.

Conclusion: If you are ready to invest a little more in your pillow, then I recommend the Third of Life pillow.

You get all the advantages of the other pillows in one. I think the price-performance ratio is very good, especially if you are looking for a “one-for-all” solution.

Vitalife viskoelastisches Reisekissen

This pillow is primarily intended for travelers who spend a lot of time on the plane or in the car.

With a size of only 42 x 24 x 12 cm, it is very compact and is also delivered in an inclusive travel bag.

The viscose cover can be easily removed with a zip and machine washed at up to 40 degrees.

Ideal for travel

If you don’t want to do without the comfort of a viscose pillow when you are traveling, then the Vitalife pillow is an inexpensive and good choice.

  • Very handy and yet comfortable.
  • Versatile and suitable for all types of beds.
  • Light and compact – you can stow it away to save space.

In the hotel as well as on camping trips, on the plane or in a bungalow away from civilization, the pillow increases your sleeping comfort.

As a travel pillow it is much smaller than conventional viscose pillows, but the quality is consistent and offers you a cozy alternative, no matter where you are.

Only in your own bedroom, where handiness plays a minor role, should you use a larger pillow if possible, as the price-performance ratio is better there.

However, if you travel a lot and comfort is a problem for you, then this travel pillow can already make a significant difference.

Conclusion: For a travel pillow, the price-performance ratio is optimal thanks to the good comfort.

However, if you are looking for a memory foam pillow for your bedroom at home, I would rather recommend the other models presented here.

FMP Mattress Mattress Orthopedic Neck Support Pillow

The FMP mattress manufactory offers a thermoplastic viscose pillow with the dimensions 70 x 36 cm.

You can choose between different heights between 6 and 13 cm, so you will find the ideal height for every type of sleep.

The cover is removable and machine washable up to 60 degrees. In addition, the pillow core is surrounded by a jersey. This makes it easier for you to pull the cover back over the pillow after washing.

Comparison of lying heights

Both the pillow and the cover are of excellent quality and very well made. If you are a side sleeper, then the lower lying heights are particularly suitable.

If you prefer to sleep on your back or are one of the heavier people, I recommend the pillow with a height of 11 or even 13 cm.

For me, as a mixed side and back sleeper, the pillow at a height of 8.5 cm was ideal. But here it also depends on your individual needs.

Including storage bag

I think the included storage bag is nice, but it was unnecessary for me in practice. On the one hand, it is intended for storing the pillow to avoid dust and dirt – but I want to use the pillow and not put it in the closet.

On the other hand, the bag should serve to take the pillow with you on trips. However, I don’t want to run around with a huge, additional bag that says “Dream better – sleep systems” in bold and bold letters.

Conclusion: The pillow itself convinces with a very high level of comfort. It adapts perfectly to the body and I only sink in where I exert pressure. This keeps the cervical and back vertebrae straight and I can sleep in an optimal position .

The price-performance ratio here is very good. You get a relatively large pillow, so it is ideal for the bedroom.

The quality promises reliable service even after years and the cover is comparable to the cover of a good hotel.

My conclusion on viscoelastic pillows

Once you have found the right visco-elastic pillow for you, you will never want to resort to down or feathers again.

No other pillow adapts so optimally to your body and relieves you reliably.

  • While large variants significantly improve sleeping comfort in your bedroom, smaller variants offer the possibility of neck and back-friendly sleep even when traveling .
  • The pillows are all very easy to care for and durable, which makes the investment very worthwhile.

While down pillows are also very comfortable (if they are new!), They do not support your vertebrae adequately. Since every body is built differently, there is seldom a pillow that fits every type.

Memory foam solves this problem and is suitable for every body.

In addition, this material will keep its ergonomic shape for years when regular down pillows are already flat and saggy.

I recommend swapping your old pillow for a visco-elastic pillow. Your neck will thank you later.
