Disturbing noises & too much noise can be annoying when falling asleep. If you cannot cope with earplugs, noise curtains are an alternative.
People who sleep lightly suffer from:
Disturbing noises and loud noise not only prevent us from falling asleep, but also regularly wake us up from sleep. This makes a healthy night’s sleep impossible for many.
Of course there are ways to banish the noise from the bedroom – but special windows are quick to buy and not everyone likes the feeling of pressing ear plugs.

Do noise curtains create silence?
For this reason, there are special curtains that are designed to protect against loud noises.
Mostly they are made of thick fabric, which in addition to soundproofing also brings some other advantages such as better insulation in winter.
Externally, the curtains do not differ from other (high-quality) variants – however, the material ensures that noises remain outside the bedroom.
How effectively do the curtains protect against noise?
First of all : you shouldn’t expect miracles from the curtains.
- They cannot stop loud construction site noise, they have too little mass. Conversations, noises from the parking lot, city noise or loud hissing are clearly attenuated.
- The curtains are particularly good against high frequencies. Even if some noise can still be heard, it is at least significantly reduced or is no longer so annoying.
Unfortunately only trying out helps here. It is best to read a few testimonials on the Internet – most of them are quite positive.
In most cases, the insulation of the curtains is clearly too perceptible – if the high frequencies fall away, the noises are no longer so “cutting” and unpleasant.
You may still hear the outside world, but it is less disturbing.
If the noise in front of the house is not too loud, it is worth trying. In addition to noise protection, there are also a few other advantages:
The thick fabric is opaque
Not only noise, but also disturbing light can negatively affect sleep. The bedroom should therefore be as dark as possible so that the hormone melatonin is released.
Thick noise protection curtains have a noticeable advantage here: the material does not let any rays of light through even during the day and the interior remains dark.
Bright car headlights during the night are also not a problem.
The curtains insulate against cold and heat
Because the material used is also thicker than normal curtains, the noise protection variants protect against too cold and hot temperatures.
- In winter they insulate better than normal variants and can reduce heating costs – according to the manufacturer Moondream by up to 37%.
- Even in summer, the curtains can protect against too much heat – of course they are no substitute for air conditioning, but the cooling is noticeable.
Such a noise protection curtain thus combines 3 functions in one.
What noise protection curtains are there?
The best known are the curtains from Moondream, which has patented the soundproof fabrics.
- If you want to get an idea of the available sizes and colors, you will find an overview of the different versions here.
- The (somewhat heavy) curtains can be attached to almost any curtain rod using the large eyelets.
The price is not exactly a bargain, but the fabrics are of high quality and have the 3 functions mentioned above (soundproofing, 100% privacy protection, insulation).
The asking price is therefore reasonable for the stable workmanship and the prospect of better, healthy sleep. Once installed, the curtains will serve their purpose for many years without any problems.
Alternatives to the noise protection curtain
If you sleep with earplugs on anyway , a blackout curtain might be useful.
As the name suggests, they protect against light and also insulate the temperature a little. This enables relaxed sleep without an annoying sleep mask.
They are available in numerous variants and colors , which are usually a little cheaper than curtains with built-in noise protection.
