Medisana – health products from Neuss
The headquarters of the until recently listed company Medisana is in Neuss, even though the company was taken over by a Chinese group of companies in 2015.
- Even before the takeover, Medisana was internationally active through various subsidiaries.
- The company’s core business continues to be the development and production of various health products.
In addition to light alarm clocks, Medisana also produces blood pressure monitors, scales, clinical thermometers, heart rate monitors, massage devices and many other products for end users.
How do light alarm clocks work?
If you have not yet dealt with light alarm clocks in detail, you will find a brief introduction to the function and effect of light alarm clocks here.
In recent years, light alarm clocks have become more and more popular. Especially at the beginning of autumn and winter in Germany, when it is not really bright in the morning, the sales figures skyrocket.
In contrast to normal alarm clocks, light alarm clocks work with light instead of sound. Medical studies have shown that a person’s internal clock is highly dependent on the time of day. People who wake up to (natural) light are therefore more rested and start the day more energetically.
With a light alarm clock, a daylight source ensures that the light in the bedroom becomes steadily brighter before the set alarm time.
The advantages of this are:
- You wake up to the influence of light as if by yourself.
- Your deep sleep phase is not interrupted.
- If you have not woken up by the set alarm time, an acoustic signal will sound to prevent you from oversleeping.
After a short period of getting used to it, most users of light alarm clocks wake up before the security signal sounds.
Which light alarm clocks are there from Medisana?
Medisana currently offers light alarm clocks in different price levels and with different equipment. I have summarized the most interesting models for you here:
- The latest model: Medisana WL 460 light alarm clock
- My buying tip: Medisana WL 450 wake-up light
- Round and good: Medisana WL 444 light alarm clock
- Inexpensive: Medisana WL 50E light alarm clock
In the following you will find more detailed descriptions of the individual sunrise alarm clock models as well as a small test report for each individual device.
All Medisana light alarm clocks are available at prices below € 100.
Test report on the light alarm clock Medisana WL 460
You can even get the currently most expensive model of the Medisana sunrise alarm clock for well under € 100. The Medisana WL 460 is an extremely comprehensive device that offers you many functions.
Evaluation : The Medisana light alarm clock WL 460 is a relatively large light alarm clock with many functions. Operation is a little complicated, which is why I recommend that you read the Medisana WL 460 operating instructions first. This ensures that you achieve the best possible results with your sunrise alarm clock.
Features and equipment
The Medisana WL 460 has many functions:
- Sonnenaufgangs-Simulation
- Sunset simulation
- Integrated radio
- Snooze function
- Can be used as a bedside lamp
- Seven different shades
- MP3 connection
The advantages and disadvantages of the WL 460
Compared to other light alarm clocks, the WL 460 from Medisana is relatively large and takes up a lot of space on your bedside table. In my opinion, however, a large lamp supports the function of the light alarm clock. So I wouldn’t judge the size adversely.
In contrast, I find the handling of the device a bit complicated. While other light alarm clocks can be programmed intuitively, it is essential that you read the enclosed Medisana operating instructions before using the WL 460. After you have dealt with it a bit, you can get the full range of functions out of the device.
Thanks to the radio and the MP3 connection, you can be woken up after the light phase either by any radio station or by your own music on a connected MP3 player.
The light alarm clock WL 450 in the test
The WL 450 wake-up light is Medisana’s best seller. It is not only popular with many users because of its good price-performance ratio.
Evaluation : The WL 450 from Medisana convinced me all round. If you can find a good current offer, this is a feature-rich model for a very affordable price. You can’t expect much more from a light alarm clock.
Features and equipment
The Medisana WL 450 offers the following functions:
- Sonnenaufgangs-Simulation
- Integrated radio
- Snooze function
- Can be used as a bedside lamp
- Seven different shades
- 8 Natural tone
- MP3 connection
Test report on the WL 450
It is not for nothing that the WL 450 is one of the best-selling light alarm clocks from Medisana. The design is well thought out, the lamp is nice and large and there are all the functions that a contemporary light alarm clock should offer.
The only thing that the WL 450 does not have is a sleep function, in which the light slowly becomes darker.
Since the WL 460 is already a successor model, you can find the WL 450 at very affordable prices. So my recommendation is: if the price is right – buy it!
The round light alarm clock from Medisana: WL 444
In contrast to the other models from Medisana, the WL 444 light alarm clock comes in a round design. You are probably familiar with this from other brands. With a price of less than € 50, the WL 444 is an extremely affordable entry-level model that still has a lot to offer.
Evaluation : This light alarm clock is ideal if you are looking for an inexpensive light alarm clock with good functions. In the price group below € 50, the WL 444 can easily keep up with the competition.
Features and equipment
The WL 444 is equipped with the following functions:
- Sonnenaufgangs-Simulation
- Integrated radio
- Snooze function
- Can be used as a bedside lamp
- Seven different shades
- 8 Natural tone
- Backup-Batteries
My test report on the ML 444
The ML 444 light alarm clock from Medisana has many useful functions at a very affordable price.
The round design is reminiscent of the competing product HF3520 from Philips and the features convinced me.
I particularly liked that the WL 444 has a backup battery. This ensures that stored data is not lost even in the event of a power failure. Such features are not a given in this price group.
The only drawback is the lack of an MP3 connection. However, since the main idea of a light alarm clock is to wake up from the light, you should not overestimate the possible signal tones. With a good light alarm clock, the tones will soon be superfluous.
Inexpensive: the Medisana WL 50E
The WL 50E light alarm clock comes from Medisana, but is sold under the brand name Ecomed. This also seems to have qualitative reasons.
Evaluation : In contrast to the Medisana devices, this model with the product name Ecomed makes a rather inferior impression on me at first glance. Both the light source and the sound quality have numerous bad customer ratings.
Even if the WL 50E is relatively cheap, there are definitely better models in this price range. You can find the much better WL 444 directly at Medisana for a small surcharge.
Features and equipment
The WL 50E has the following functions:
- Sonnenaufgangs-Simulation
- Sunset simulation
- Integrated radio
- Snooze function
- 10 natural sounds
The WL 50E light alarm clock in the test
Of all the Medisana light alarm clocks tested, the WL 50E performed worst. Although it is the cheapest model in the test, you should expect a little more in the price range around € 30. In particular, the many error messages in customer reviews give me pause for thought.
Conclusion: For a little more you can get better light alarm clocks on the market such as the WL 444.
Conclusion: Medisana convinces in all price ranges
Most of the Medisana light alarm clocks convinced me both of the price-performance ratio and of the ease of use.
- With the models WL 444, WL 450 and WL 460 you will find various light alarm clocks for pretty much every taste in the price group between 30 and 90 euros.
- If you prefer a round design, you are well served with the WL 444. Alternatively, I recommend the slightly more expensive Philips HF3520 light alarm clock .
- For the other two models, I would personally recommend the WL 450 because it is easier to use. You can often find this very cheap, as it is the predecessor model of the WL 460.
- The WL 50E from the subsidiary brand Ecomed did not convince me in the test. There are better devices in the low price group around 30 euros. I recommend the WL 444 from Medisana.
You are also welcome to take a look at the various Beurer light alarm clocks that I have tested for you.
