The best inflatable guest beds: insider tips & test winners

Expert advice on all aspects of inflatable beds for guest rooms, vacations and relaxed sleeping. The best recommendations at a glance.

In this article I take a close look at inflatable guest beds and explain what you should consider when buying such a product.

  • I would also like to give you a few tips on how you can increase your sleeping comfort for yourself and your guests.
  • I fondly remember my school vacations. Camping was very often on the program of the Easter and summer holidays.

But I was looking forward to the days rather than the nights. Because as great and eventful the days were, the nights were unfortunately mostly uncomfortable and sleep-consuming.

Back then there were also inflatable air beds , but in a much smaller and flatter shape and with fewer accessories. This often had an impact on comfort and sleep quality. The longer the vacation, the more muscle tension and crooked necks the result.

To prevent this from happening to you, you will find my detailed buying guide to inflatable guest beds here.

If you are short on time, you will find a convincing all-rounder here:

In the following test comparison, I will go into more detail on further recommendations:

Before we go to specific recommendations, I would like to summarize a few general information for you (so that you can decide whether a removable guest bed is even an option for you).

What are the advantages of an inflatable guest bed?

Fortunately, inflatable guest beds have been further developed for the benefit of the sleeper.

What you can offer your guests nowadays hardly has anything in common with the emergency solutions during camping holidays. And yet the principle works the same with the inflatable mattresses.

An inflatable guest bed has many advantages. The biggest advantages of such a modern guest bed compared to the usual air mattresses can be summarized as follows:

Plenty of space

Gone are the days of emergency sleeping places where you only have a body width of space.

  • Thanks to the inflatable air beds, you have enough space at night and don’t feel like being squeezed in.
  • Falling down from the inflatable guest bed at night is almost an impossibility.

Even the most active sleeper can roll and move back and forth in the middle of the night without hesitation.

Higher resilience

As previously described, the inflatable guest beds offer plenty of space.

More space also means that the surface can withstand higher loads. The thickness of the material also has a positive effect on the maximum load. More KG can be carried.

As a result, guest beds are usually suitable for several people at the same time. Nevertheless, you should always pay attention to the maximum weight that the inflatable guest beds can carry.

Disregarding the capacity can cause irreparable damage to the seams of the air beds.

Air supply and discharge possible by means of a pump

Your lung volume will no longer be tested and you will no longer run out of breath as quickly. Thanks to these modern solutions, an electric pump takes over the air supply.

You do not necessarily need this for ventilation. After use, the air can also be pressed out of the air bed manually. However, you will save time in venting if you use the electric pump for this.

However, there are also mechanical solutions. With this method, you inflate the air bed with a pedal or an air pump. However, these are not always included in the product set.

A place to sleep in next to no time

It is always impressive for me to see how quickly an entire sleeping place can be created out of nowhere.

Within 2 – 4 minutes you can use the electric pump to create your night camp with an inflatable air bed .

So if there is already enough space and a power connection at the destination, you will have a freshly made bed in less than 5 minutes.

Look and design

In addition to the advantages already mentioned for the user, such as increased sleeping comfort and ergonomics, such an inflatable guest bed also looks a little more attractive.

I wouldn’t necessarily want to offer the somewhat spartan plank beds or folding beds to every one of my guests.

What are the disadvantages of inflatable guest beds?

Every flexible sleeping option has advantages as well as disadvantages. The inflatable air bed is also not perfect and its shortcomings should not go unmentioned.

Loud and noisy

Depending on the model, the operation of the electric pump is accompanied by a loud background noise.

Imagine roughly the same level of decibels as a regular vacuum cleaner. Some luxury versions also have a Silence mode, but that too is still as loud as an electric toothbrush .

  • That can of course be quite annoying. Especially your neighbors if you inflate the guest bed in the middle of the night.
  • Even if it is inflated relatively quickly (2 – 4 minutes) depending on the size of the guest bed to be inflated and the power of the electric pump.

In order to maintain the neighborly peace, it is advisable to set up the air bed in good time during the day.

The first smell

As pleasant as some new products, such as a brand-new vehicle, smell, this is less pleasant with the inflatable air bed.

Most copies are made of PVC or VINYL plastic material. Because of the space-saving packaging and storage, they can be quite smelly when unpacking.

Before using it for the first time, you should first get rid of the odor. You can do this best with these methods:

  • Let it air for a few hours outside on the balcony, terrace or garden
  • If you don’t have an outside area at home, open the windows and ensure that there is sufficient ventilation
  • A gentle textile spray accelerates odor removal
  • Use a fresh sheet. Maximum effect when using detergents with a smell

For a comfortable sleep without the annoying smell, you should definitely consider this before using it for the first time.

However, you should only use the method of venting outdoors if the weather conditions permit. Moisture from rain and frost can cause irreparable damage to the electric pump even before it is used for the first time.

Quality has its price

Compared to other mobile sleeping options, the inflatable guest bed is of course the slightly more expensive solution. A general comparison is a bit tedious due to the different target groups and product dimensions.

However, when you buy the right electric air bed, you or your guests also get a certain amount of sleep quality back. You shouldn’t ignore this perspective. When it comes to sleep and relaxation outside of your own bed, an additional euro invested is often worth it.

The weight

An inflatable air bed is more difficult to carry and transport due to its higher weight compared to other mobile sleeping options.

Therefore, not all models of air beds are suitable for all types of vacation. Backpackers, for example, already have a very limited carrying capacity available.

What to consider before buying an inflatable mattress

It may seem practical to be able to offer guests a movable bed. However, you should consider all prospects before buying.

Sufficient space is required

Before buying, you should therefore be certain that you have enough space available for the mobile sleeping space.

Of course, after the inflatable guest bed has been fully expanded, you will need a little more space than the dimensions of the bed.

It should be possible to get in and out of the inflatable guest bed from both sides without any problems. So add some tolerance to the specified dimensions of the product.

  • 50cm additional per side
  • Overall, the footprint should be 2 ½ – 3 meters wide.

Without knowing your living area better – but from my own experience I can tell you that in a normal apartment this area is rarely completely available in its entirety for an inflatable guest bed.

Furniture often has to be moved to create this surface. So it can’t hurt to get your sleeping space ready in good time. Not all neighbors think that having to move a few furniture in the middle of the night is good.

Analyze and consider alternative sleeping places before buying

Of course, you might want to use the inflatable mattress outside of your own four walls.

You should therefore consider whether the air bed can be inflated at all at the desired destination. Where do I want to place an inflatable guest bed?

At alternative emergency sleeping places such as tents, under roof gables or inside a car, this area must be available at all before you can go to bed to rest.

There is no point in arriving at campsites or festivals with the premium solution if you cannot use it there.

The power supply should also be available in the desired corner of your sleeping area. If this is not the case, you would have to carry the air bed across the room. Also not a nice pleasure before I want to go to sleep.

Note power sources

Also keep in mind that often only one cable for the power connection used in Germany is supplied with the electric pump. N

If you take an inflatable guest bed with you on trips to distant countries, you should definitely take an adapter from the destination country with you.

So inform yourself in good time about the voltage to be used. You can find a clear map of the various mains voltages here . So you shouldn’t have any problems within Europe.

Perfect inflatable guest bed recommendations for every type

Recommending a specific product is no easy task. Every buyer or user has different requirements that can vary widely.

Therefore I would like to recommend the best product for each user group.

  • The family
  • The adventurous traveler
  • For children
  • Motorists and outdoor athletes
  • The luxury solution
  • Price vs. performance

Each of these user groups needs an inflatable air bed to stay overnight. But they have completely different requirement profiles for the product.

Tip for families

Requirement profile: Several people should find their place comfortably on the surface of the inflatable bed. Preferably a family of several.

The most important arguments for buying a family air bed are robustness and durability. It should be easy to use and convenient for several people.

An air bed for its requirement profile must therefore …

  • Be usable for several years
  • Be suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
  • Provide a comfortable surface for several different types of sleep

A great solution for several people is the AlwayzAire air bed from Bestway.

With just under 10 kg, however, you are hauling a real chunk with you. However, you and other people have more than enough space on the guest bed at 203 x 152 x 51 cm.

The electric pump ensures a quick and reliable supply of air. Three different degrees of hardness of the surface can be set before use. The pump adapts to your set level.

It will never get too warm or too cold when applied overnight. Thanks to the dense and robust material, the surface of this inflatable guest bed regulates the temperature and adapts to the ambient temperature.

If you want to charge one of your electronic devices overnight, you can do so at any time using the integrated USB port.

The coolest feature, however, is the integrated pressure monitoring sensor. Your personally pre-defined degree of hardness of the air bed is regulated without you noticing.

So if air escapes from the inflatable guest bed during the night, it is fed back by means of the electric pump. An optimal and constant lying comfort can thus be guaranteed.

The luxury solution

Requirement profile: Money plays a subordinate role when choosing a mobile sleeping option. You have enough budget and are interested in the big solution. You use an inflatable guest bed for glamping (glamor + camping) or if you want to invite guests to your home.

The most important arguments for buying an air bed in the luxury segment is of course on the one hand the quality.

When you sleep outside of your own bed, it should be of the highest quality and comfort as possible. On the other hand, you are still interested in prestige or one or the other additional feature.

An air bed for the luxurious requirement profile must therefore …

  • Fulfilling the basic benefits of sleep as best as possible
  • Be particularly comfortable and ergonomic
  • Also be a pioneer in terms of design

The reason for buying an air bed in the luxury segment is to overachieve the basic benefit. The difference in sleep quality between your own bed and the inflatable luxury bed should be as small as possible. The Mfun-bed product offers you all of this .

You need even more space for this air bed than for the previously described solution for families. The dimensions for the luxury bed are 230 x 150 x 88 cm in the deluxe king-size format. But why is this inflatable guest bed so much larger than other brands?

It has an L-shaped backrest for a more comfortable neck position. This is designed to be extra wide and provides additional comfort.

  • The product also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of design. The fireplace-red color of the luxury guest bed and the high-quality flock material look elegant and modern.
  • With a purchase of this product you would also optically stand out from the crowd. Most common products are dark blue or black. Red is more of an eye-catcher.

Usually the nocturnal movements on the surface of such air beds cause noises. This can not happen to you with the Mfun-bed product . Why not?

The interior of the inflatable bed consists of a flexible and robust matrix structure. Imagine a symmetrical honeycomb shape. Movements are dampened here and the air bed hardly changes its shape when moving.

In addition, the surface is softly padded with high-quality flock material and thus causes less noise.

In contrast to many other products, this is described by the manufacturer as waterproof PVC. The electric pump is not built into the air bed itself and must be connected externally. Therefore, it is theoretically possible to use it in water, which I would nevertheless advise against.

Price vs. performance

Requirement profile: Let’s assume a different scenario. You just don’t want to spend that much money on an inflatable air bed. Or you are looking for one or two uses for extreme cases. In that case, of course, a product in the lower price segment comes into question for you.

The most important arguments for buying an air bed is the price. As a price-sensitive buyer, quality is of secondary importance to you. You simply need a quick and uncomplicated place to sleep.

However, you should plan an inflatable bed as a consumable and not for long-term use.

For this requirement profile, an air bed must therefore …

  • Be as cheap as possible
  • Save the user for a maximum of a couple of festival nights
  • Offer a certain minimum comfort. Anything is better than having to sleep on the floor

Well, the parameters are chosen quite clearly here. You are interested in a quick solution. Don’t want to read endlessly long price and quality comparisons. And anyway, they are only interested in minimal sleeping comfort and no repetitive use.

In this case, the Pavillo air bed can serve you well and for a specific purpose.

The product is quite flat at 185 x 76 x 22 cm. Be sure that after the first night you will need to pump up again.

You save not only on price, but also on weight. This inflatable air bed is lighter than 1 kg and can therefore be easily transported and taken anywhere.

There is not much more to say or recommend about this product. However, besides a short product life, be warned of something else:

No pump is supplied for the air valve.

You either have an air pump or a bellows from a previous purchase. Then you just want to retrofit with this inflatable guest bed. Or you can simply save entirely on the pump and inflate the air bed with your own breath.

For children

Requirement profile: Even the smallest ones should miss out on possible camping trips or overnight stays outside their own four walls. Children have special requirements for an air bed and at the same time do not need the sizes of adults.

An air bed for the children’s requirement profile must therefore …

  • Be comfortable and cozy and warm
  • Be easily washable
  • Quite a cool design!

Your child should be warm and comfortable at the same time. The inflatable air bed from Worlds Apart has an integrated sleeping bag so that you don’t have to worry about a set of bed linen.

    • The head area of this air bed is also provided with an integrated pillow.
    • There are several designs here that are adapted to boys or girls of different age groups:
Amazon advertising links / images from the Amazon Product Advertising API

However, the dimensions are always the same for all listed products with 150 x 62 x 20 cm. The manufacturer describes the load capacity of up to 50 kg.

In contrast to many other inflatable guest beds for adults, the dimensions are of course much narrower and flatter.

On the other hand, the corners with their rounded shape are also smaller and the material is much softer. For this reason, you can roll up these air beds for children and easily stow them in the storage bag.

Unpacking, setting up and inflating will also go much faster than with the adult models. A supplied air pump can also be easily operated by the child thanks to the pedal.

Children often like to do exactly what they shouldn’t. Eating and crumbly in bed is just as much a part of the repertoire of the little rascals as accidentally spilling liquids. But how is the material clean and pure again?

The soft cover and the pillow can be washed in the washing machine without hesitation. This keeps the air bed clean and fresh.

For the next birthday party with overnight stays, for pajama parties or when your best friend comes to visit.

For adventurous travelers

Requirement profile: Life with all its adventures begins outside of the comfort zone. Whenever you travel, a restful sleep is essential for regeneration. The adventurer usually carries his nightly comfort zone on his back or in his luggage to save space.

The most important arguments for buying a single air bed for the outdoor adventurer are its own carrying capacity and limited use. Only a small amount of luggage per person can be carried on the back or in the hands at the same time.

An air bed for its requirement profile must therefore …

  • Have little weight
  • Be packed to save space
  • Be robust and equipped with a repair kit

The following single air bed is designed for one person at 189 x 60 x 15 cm and meets all of these core requirements. With these dimensions, take into account that this air bed with a length of 189 cm is not suitable for oversized people.

If the user wants to prepare his sleeping place shortly before sunset, this single air bed is quickly and reliably ready for use. Thanks to the built-in screw valve, the guest bed can be quickly ventilated and deflated.

Even if it has a high maximum load capacity of 148 kg, cracks can still appear in the surface outside on uneven and stony surfaces.

You can also buy an air bed from the same manufacturer that is suitable for two people. With a load capacity of 295 kg and a size of 188 x 137 x 19 cm, this specimen will suit both adventurers.

A repair kit is conveniently included in the scope of delivery. But be prepared just in case and equip yourself with additional patches for possible repairs. After all, apply it with high wear and tear during your travels.

The air bed should be mechanically inflatable, as power sources are seldom close to use outdoors. An external electric pump with a power connection is of little use for this purpose.

However, no mechanical air pump is included in the scope of delivery. But you can also buy these in good quality for an acceptable price.

With all these tools you are prepared for the next camping season and can enjoy an adventurous holiday with a clear conscience.

Motorists and outdoor athletes

Requirement profile: You prefer to travel with your car on trips, excursions or even entire vacations. As a driver of an SUV or Jeep, you will therefore regularly visit remote places where no accommodation is available. You are therefore interested in your own solution for the trunk.

The main arguments in favor of buying an air bed for use in the car are convenience and adaptability. Your overnight camp should fit flexibly in the trunk and be particularly resistant.

An air bed for the driver of an SUV or Jeep must therefore …

  • Be flexibly designed for multiple car sizes
  • Be multifunctional and provide multiple benefits at the same time
  • Include an adapter for the cigarette lighter

The following product from Coocnh is communicated as an SUV air mattress. However, it has much more advanced properties and advantages than conventional air mattresses.

This inflatable bed has five independent air chambers. So you decide for yourself how much space you want to use and inflate.

So unless you are transporting too much luggage, there is already enough sleeping space. Use the air bed in the back of your SUV or Jeep and enjoy a good night’s sleep.

A maximum load capacity of 300 kg also means that you can also place parts of your luggage on the inflatable air bed. In the event that there is a lack of space in the trunk.

At 180 x 128 x 12 cm, however, it can fill the entire width of a trunk. At the same time, there is still enough space for a second person. According to the seller, it is suitable for more than 95% of SUVs, MPVs.

The length of 180 cm may not be sufficient for your sleeping purposes. Therefore, you should also take your own pillow with you. This means you can enlarge the lying area where you think it is necessary.

The supplied pump allows you to quickly inflate the air bed by plugging it into the cigarette lighter. You can be in your bed within two minutes.

The air bed can adapt to extreme weather conditions with ambient temperatures of 25 ° C to 55 ° C. It is therefore also used for camping in extreme conditions.

Nonetheless, the product is also suitable for home use.

What to do after using the guest bed

After you’ve let air out of the guest bed, it’s all about proper stowage and storage. Here you can also use a few tricks to make your life easier and save time and nerves here and there.

Fold after use

The last step before the guest bed is safely stowed away is almost self-explanatory. You should fold it in half for storage. It should be folded alternately vertically and horizontally, but never diagonally.

Other methods of reducing the size, such as rolling or indiscriminately crumpling, will neither help you achieve the desired storage nor protect the material.

Otherwise you would lose a lot of time before the inflatable guest bed was returned to its original condition. Of course, you want to tidy up the sleeping area as soon as possible the morning after use.

But sensible and proper folding is the targeted solution for quick and efficient dismantling of the inflatable guest bed. And it can be quite tedious and annoying if you lose time because of the wrong mining method.

The best storage method

Depending on which of the inflatable guest beds described above you want to choose, the storage method also varies. Some copies are delivered in a box, others come in a kind of sack.

However, always use the cover supplied by the manufacturer. So do not try to press the inflatable guest bed even smaller than you found it in the original state. There is a reason why the manufacturer has already designed the product to be as space-saving as possible.

  • Less than the recommended minimum is not possible and should not be a challenge for the user.
  • Also remove the accessories supplied. Before using the guest bed until the next use, remove any loose valves or pumps.

Do not encircle the folded air bed with rubber bands or similar fixation devices. They would cause tension and abrasion on the surface of the guest bed.

Store the packaging away from direct sunlight if it can be avoided. The surface can become damaged and porous.

At best, cool and dry storage locations are suitable. Avoid damp storage locations to avoid any mold growth.

Use the inflatable guest bed for sleeping – not for sports

The inflatable guest bed should not be repurposed and should always be used for its original purpose.

Waterproof does not mean that it is also suitable for water sports

In contrast to the commercially available air mattress mentioned at the beginning, the inflatable guest bed cannot be used as a raft or surfboard. You should therefore avoid all water sports activities in the pool or in the sea.

Most surfaces are waterproof and do not let water through. However, this does not apply to the head area of the inflatable guest bed. Waterproof means not completely waterproof or suitable for constant contact with water.

The air beds cannot tolerate moisture due to the electric pump. And many copies have built-in electric pumps.

If you come into contact with water, you may short-circuit the integrated circuits the next time you use it. This puts you at risk of the electric pump’s operability. In addition, the salt or chlorine content in the sea or pool would cause additional damage.

Proper cleaning and care of the inflatable guest bed

If the guest bed needs to be cleaned at some point, avoid cleaning it in the shower. Here, too, drops of water or moisture can get near the electric motor and cause irreparable damage.

This is how you should clean the inflatable guest bed:

  • Wipe
  • Lukewarm drinking water
  • Soap / washing-up liquid

Hand clean the air bed the traditional way. You do not need any additional cleaning agents. Rather, the chemicals it contains can damage the surface. Soap or detergent on a natural basis, however, do no harm.

Follow all manufacturer recommendations for proper cleaning. As a rule, the surface materials are not machine washable. Even if they are communicated as waterproof.

Before you fold the inflatable guest bed again, make sure that its surface is completely dry. Rashly stowing your guest bed away could cause mold.

It is a piece of furniture and not a toy

The inflatable guest bed is not a bouncy castle or trampoline. Even if the elastic surface of the air beds tempts you to play activities – don’t let children jump or romp around on the sleeping area.

Playgrounds are more suitable for this than sleeping places for you or your guests. This also prevents injuries to children and possible damage to the air mattress.

Careful handling helps the life of the inflatable guest bed. If you see it as a piece of furniture to be taken seriously and not as a toy for other purposes, the investment in a guest bed will be worthwhile for many applications.

Bonus information: Tips and tricks for a better sleep with inflatable guest beds

An inflatable guest bed can never replace a traditional mattress in terms of comfort and quality. Nevertheless, there are a few tricks that you can use to ensure a better night’s sleep for yourself or your guests.

Avoid electrosmog

They are about half a meter above the floor on the inflatable guest bed. Depending on which room you are in to sleep in, there may be electrical devices very close to you.

Many of them emit blue light, which makes it difficult to fall asleep ( blue light filter glasses can help).

If these are switched on and in operation, they also produce emissions. In addition to the noises already indicated, this could possibly be electrosmog. Electrosmog is also emitted in stand-by mode.

When I was young I can remember a lot of LAN parties that made my head pound at night. That was not only (J) due to hours of gaming on the PC.

But when four buddies band together in a small basement and bring all their computers, monitors and headsets with them, then a good night’s sleep on the air bed they brought with them was out of the question.

At that time, the exposure to electromagnetic fields in a small room was too great.

These electromagnetic fields have been shown to disturb your sleep and produce electrosmog. So try to stay away from sources of electrosmog. The following devices and networks are clear sources of electrosmog:

  • Smartphones and cell phones
  • Computer, Laptops, Tablets
  • Headsets
  • Televisions and radios
  • Devices with power supplies
  • electric alarm clock, clock radio
  • strombetriebene Babyphones
  • electric blankets, pillows and shoes
  • WLAN-Router

Of course, you can’t rearrange half the apartment and redecorate it for a couple of nights on an air mattress. But at least consider the influence of these electrical devices on your sleep.

When using an inflatable guest bed, you are usually more exposed to these electronic devices than is the case in your own bedroom. Even if science has not yet been able to unequivocally clarify the intensity of the effects, electromagnetic radiation has an impact on your sleep .

The following symptoms are associated with electrosmog, among others:

  • Restlessness or malaise
  • nervousness
  • a headache
  • Dizziness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Depressive moods

Admittedly, these are all extreme examples and they only show up after a permanent influence on the human body. Staying at night on an inflatable guest bed in a strange environment is certainly not a condition in which you are permanently exposed to electrosmog.

Nevertheless, it is worth switching off any electrical devices that may be stationed at night. On the one hand you avoid the effects listed above and ensure a more balanced sleep.

I myself always turn off my phone or laptop overnight and put them on the table away from where I sleep. It doesn’t matter whether I sleep in my own bed or on an inflatable guest bed.

The solution

But I was also able to find a great solution. This mobile radiation protection for on the go helps you to fall asleep if you react sensitively to electromagnetic fields.

In addition to light and noise, consider electrosmog as a possible source of interference in your sleep. The further away you sleep from electrical appliances, the better. With this mobile all-purpose weapon against electrosmog, you can shield yourself from electromagnetic fields without using batteries or electricity.

Consider choice of pillow

You have probably already tested a few pillows before you found your favorite. The head and neck should be comfortable for many hours.

Use your own pillow that you have gotten used to

So if possible, just bring your own favorite pillow from home. Or recommend your guest to bring their preferred pillow.

If it is not possible to take it with you or use it for any reason, please ask the host for a soft pillow. Sofa cushions are usually made of hard material, misshapen and not conducive to sleep quality.

The same goes for half-round neck pillows or bolsters . These may be ideal for long flights and bus trips in a vertical sleeping position and stabilize your neck.

However, if you spend several hours in a horizontal sleeping position, this pillow will not help you.

You will change your sleeping position and will no longer be able to lie comfortably on the pillow. The zipper can be more of an issue

Tip: This orthopedic pillow is suitable for both types of sleep: Flexpillow in the test .

Integrated pillows

Some inflatable guest beds have an integrated pillow that is in an elevated lying position at the head end.

Before sleeping on this pillow for a full night, test it for comfort and convenience. These integrated pillows are not always the ideal solution for a restful sleep.

If in doubt, take your own pillow with you and add it if possible. Please note, however, that your additional pillow creates a sloping neck position and can trigger tension.

Some of the integrated pillows are also separately inflatable and are not ventilated at the same time as the rest of the inflatable guest bed. In this case you decide for yourself whether you want to use this pillow for the night’s rest.

So avoid a stiff neck early on by choosing the right pillow. You can find the right pillow here thanks to an expert buying guide .

Sources of light and noise

Remember that either you or your guest can go to bed in an unfamiliar place.

Humans are creatures of habit and need time to get used to a new environment. The human body also unconsciously and consciously gets used to sleeping.

light

Therefore try to avoid any incidence of light on the mobile guest bed.

As darkness sets in, the body increases the production of the sleep hormone melatonin , the entire body is thus attuned to night and sleep.

In other words: the darker a room, the better and deeper the sleep. At sunrise you should therefore consider where the head end of the inflatable guest bed is facing (alternatively, you can also think about a light alarm clock).

If some windows in a room cannot be darkened, look for a darker corner with no incidence of light.

Sounds

The same applies of course to possible sources of noise. These should also be taken into account before the guest bed is inflated.

A switched-on refrigerator can periodically hum. Birds chirp in the early morning. Or a heater in operation quietly bubbling all winter.

Not to mention any noise that is either produced by other people or by Mother Nature. If you use an air bed for outdoor purposes, unlike inside a building, you are exposed to many different sources of noise.

Depending on their sensitivity, these can represent completely normal sounds for some people. For others, however, it can be a disturbing noise that prevents or wakes you from sleep.

The solution

That’s why I always take a sleep mask and hearing protection with me just in case .

Is of course not for everyone and also takes getting used to when using it for the first time. Personally, it doesn’t bother me anymore.

This premium sleep mask, which is also supplied with hearing protection, is highly recommended.

Due to the large fit, no light penetrates your eyes and you can hardly feel the sleep mask and wear it comfortably. In addition, other accessories are supplied to help you fall asleep.

Personally, these tools have often helped me and enabled a better sleep.

The additional costs of these useful accessories are also to be considered negligible and are definitely worth the investment.

Remove unpleasant odors

I have already recommended in a previous chapter how you can remove the unpleasant smells of plastic and PVC before using the brand-new air bed for the first time. In particular, the third point with the textile spray can help you more than once.

So, of course, all kinds of smells can penetrate the material over time:

  • Sweat
  • saliva
  • Nicotine
  • beverages
  • Gras
  • Regen

The solution

Here, as for other textile surfaces at home, I use the Febreze textile freshener spray.

With this set of 3 you have taken care of for a long time. According to the manufacturer’s description, this fragrance lasts for 90 days. I use it after every use to be completely safe. Does not contain any chemicals harmful to the surface of the air bed.

The worst-case scenario, however, is when the secreted odor does not come from humans or mother nature, but from animals. Regardless of whether a dog has urinated on the surface while walking by or if some animals have nested there after being stored in the cellar for a longer period of time.

With the Febreze spray you get a pleasant smell back after cleaning and use.

Inflate the guest bed regularly

If you rely on an inflatable guest bed for several nights in a row, air will inevitably escape. The more people and thus more total weight press on the air mattress, the more air is lost.

Sunlight and too close placement between adjacent furniture or walls causes additional air loss from the guest bed. Sooner or later, more air has to be pumped in to bring the sleeping possibility back to a comfortable position.

That is why my tip is to regularly inflate the guest bed before you go to bed. I would even recommend that you let in fresh air every evening. Regardless of whether you sleep there alone or with several people at the same time.

Ensure that the guest bed is always inflated and that the sleeping area is straight. Your back will thank you. This 30 seconds of newly invested time to supply air to your guest bed will have a positive effect on the quality of your sleep.

Avoid damage in good time

As already described above, you should always leave enough space around the inflatable guest bed. On the one hand, it should be easier to get on and off.

Sufficient space = less damage

However, it is much more important to avoid being too close to walls or furniture. The air bed should not be inflated between walls and furniture. Also, do not squeeze the air bed into your desired sleeping place when it is inflated.

Better to change the sleeping place. The guest bed when fully inflated is under tension and must also be able to expand after you put your weight on the surface.

What you can do yourself

I also recommend that you get into an air bed only in your sleeping clothes. They could also cause sharp-edged damage to shoes, belt buckles, or jewelry.

All sharp and pointed objects on nearby counter surfaces should be removed. What could fall may not only damage the surface. You too could be injured by office supplies, tools and kitchen utensils.

If you want to use the inflatable air bed for outdoors, also pay attention to and remove all sources of danger on the ground. That can be the shell in the sand or the sharp stone in the grass or glass splinters on the camping meadow.

Recognize need for repairs and prepare with foresight

It is normal for air to escape. This cannot be avoided after inflating. However, it is important to analyze whether the amount of air loss is normal or exceptional.

Reasons for the loss of air

In principle, however, air loss is not a cause for concern.

With a little experience, however, you will notice when more air than usual is missing in your inflatable guest bed the next morning. This can be caused by environmental influences such as …

  • Exposure to sunlight
  • Temperature differences
  • Uneven floors

…caused. On the other hand, the user also contributes to this state. Most of the time it’s the following things:

  • Weight or pressure load on the surface
  • Improper use or misuse of the guest bed
  • Incorrect positioning of the air bed too close to walls and furniture
  • The air valve has not been completely closed

Tip: Pump air into the guest bed again every morning after sleep. Until the next use of the afternoon nap or the night’s rest, you can then determine whether more air than usual is escaping without your intervention.

Has the air valve been turned off completely? Perhaps it was because air was able to escape quietly and unnoticed because the air valve was not completely closed.

How do I notice damage?

If the surface of your inflatable guest bed is damaged, this is of course quite annoying. Most damage is of a minor nature and difficult to detect if the air bed is not inflated.

You are more likely to notice the next morning after use when more air than usual escapes from the air bed. You are more likely to lie in an oval lying position like in a hammock than on a straight surface.

If you then push your body through the air bed and touch the floor, it is usually too late. In this case, re-inflate the air bed and press on the surface to find any small cracks or holes.

Most of the time the noises of the escaping air are very quiet but still audible.

The solution

In the worst-case scenario, you will no longer be able to use the inflatable guest bed and will be left without sleeping accommodation for the following night. But before you frustratedly dispose of the airbed, consider a quick and easy repair.

The repair not only saves money, it also saves nerves. Not to mention the time saved by having to find a new place to sleep. Just restore your old one.

It is best to ensure that you are well equipped and able to act in the event of an emergency before the first application. A small damage to the surface can be repaired quickly with this set – provided you have all the necessary items at hand.

Temperature influences

It is important to protect and arm yourself against seasonal temperature influences. It is extremely uncomfortable to have to freeze or sweat at night. This can easily be done quickly when you stay on the inflatable guest bed at night.

No matter if indoor or outdoor. I was allowed to (or had to) experience this firsthand.

Too cold

If you don’t sleep on a ‘normal’ mattress like in your own bed, your back is not well protected from the cold. The material of an inflatable guest bed is of course much thinner than the rustic mattress on your slatted frame.

Cold falls – warmth rises. This is one of the basic principles of thermals. They are about 50cm above the ground. And also on air. Everything in the direction of air mattresses, hammocks, sleeping mats or even inflatable guest beds ensures a cooler back.

For this reason, you should also protect your back and reinforce your lying surface with another layer. However, avoid electric blankets or electric blankets. These not only cause electrosmog (see below), but also higher electricity costs in continuous operation.

An additional T-shirt or bed sheet will provide you with more targeted heat. A hot water bottle with hot water with additional warmth also helps.

Too warm

If it gets too warm during your sleep phases, adapt your choice of clothes to the night. As a rule, however, the heat comes from above, i.e. through blankets. A thinner specimen ensures less heat on the body.

You should ensure that the room is well ventilated on mild to hot summer nights. Due to the low lying height of your inflatable guest bed, direct contact with fresh air is rarely achieved.

However, the air is completely without open windows and temperatures inevitably rise. A fan can help here and provide a certain amount of air circulation.
